— A.S. Roma is a professional football club based out of Rome, Italy. Founded in 1927, it has been one of the best premiere teams in the European football leagues.

They are known for their iconic colors Carmine Red and Golden Yellow which can be seen throughout all of their football kits and branding. The current head coach, Jose Mourinho has always been innovative about training. Introducing drone technology to the pitch was a new way to capture training and winning strategies. With that, the branding had to be on point as it would be seen all over the world.

Work: In this project, I worked with Andrea Bassani from XM2 Pursuit, under Decal Spec. XM2 is one of the best aerial cinematographers in the world. They provided the equipment for A.S. Roma and I created the livery design.

Our goal was to create a completely new and bespoke livery design for this training drone. The three circumstances were that they had to fall in line with the branding, marketing of A.S. Roma, and functionality of the equipment.

To begin, I researched and studied many sources to gain knowledge of the company and the team’s rich history. Once I felt confident I began sketching designs that would incorporate the history of the team and bring on a striking look to the equipment. After all, we want to make sure the team looks good from all angles. After this stage, I took the drawings into Adobe Creative Suite where I would begin digitally creating the livery to its final form.

In between designs, I would create mock-ups to test the actual product to ensure the design flows throughout the whole drone and to make sure the design doesn’t interfere with any technology features on the product.

The final design was printed and installed flawlessly by the Decal Spec production team. Once the equipment was completed Andrea headed to Rome and presented our work to the A.S. Roma team.
